About the Coven:

Lady Blaze calls her spiritual history, “The search for magic in the world;” a search that has taken her from her Protestant childhood religion through a fundamental Christian cult to goddess-spirituality, Wicca and Witchcraft.  In the early 1980’s, during a period of searching after her cult experience, her grandmother sent her a deck of Tarot cards and a book with a note that said, “I think you’ll have fun with these.”  That gift served as a springboard to alternative spiritual paths and to Wicca and Witchcraft.

She began developing and practicing a strong, solitary practice that included taking many classes and teaching friends.  In 1994 with four other friends, she co-founded a teaching & healing circle in Central NY.  She taught and celebrated ritual there for nearly ten years while still maintaining a strong solitary practice.

In 2003, she dedicated with the Coven of the Red-Tailed Hawk, officiated by her dear friend and High Priestess LadyHawke, the Myth Maker.  She received her first degree initiation in July 2004, and her second degree initiation in February 2005.  In May, 2005, the Guardian Council of RavenMyst granted Lady Blaze a provisional charter to start her own coven, in anticipation of receiving her third degree elevation later that year.

The Coven is located in Freeville, NY near Ithaca in the Finger Lakes region.  We meet in each others homes to learn, to teach, to celebrate, and to have fun.  This is the path of the heart, one of joy, blessings, and gratitude.  We laugh, feast, cry and learn together.

The coven has an emphasis on developing a group mind and assisting each member in an inner exploration of self in relationship to the Immanent and Transcendent Divine.  This is accomplished through meetings, rituals, shared lessons, and by each one of us developing a strong, personal, solitary practice.

Decision making within the coven will be done, wherever possible, through mutual discussion and shared consensus-building with the acknowledgement that the High Priestess is responsible for guiding the spiritual direction of the coven, the group and its activities, and the spiritual growth of each individual members.  In some cases, the word of the High Priestess is law.  Dedicants and degree holding priests and priestesses will be expected to:

  •      Attendance at coven meetings are a priority, though not a hard and fast requirement

  •      Do the RavenMyst lessons, and other lessons and challenges set by the High Priestess

  •      Assist the High Priestess with open rituals in service to the community, whenever possible

  •      Participate in the online forums when internet access is available

  •      Have a commitment to establishing and maintaining a strong personal practice

  •      Pay your dues on time, and participate in fund-raising, as appropriate

  •      Attend RavenMyst activities, such as Witchstock, whenever possible

  •      Communicate, communicate, communicate

  •      Be ready to have fun

Potential members will go through a careful screening process to ensure that this is a good decision for everyone.  Coven work is not for everyone and there is no shame in deciding not to join, or in not being asked to join.  Joining and being a part of a coven requires a strong commitment to your Gods and to your own spiritual paths.  There are times in our lives when we must attend to the issues and crises of that life and a coven could serve as a detour from those tasks set by Spirit.

The Herons maintain an Open Circle where friends, family, and community can participate in classes, rituals and discussions.  A closed coven is not meant to exclude so much as to concentrate the energies within.  We want to share our joy with others.  The online forum for the Open circle is called Witchwood is located at:  http://yahoo.groups.com/group/witchwoodofny

May your path bring you happiness, peace and blessings.
