THE EARLY DAYS WITH SVEN
This is the time period when the Voltron Force
is made up of the five Space Explorers from Galaxy Garrison.
- KEITH, LANCE, SVEN, HUNK and PIDGE arrive to
find Planet Arusin ruins. They are captured by ZARKON's forces (commanded
by the arrogant COMMANDER YURAK) and taken to Planet Doom, but manage to
escape. The explorers return to Arus and discover the legendary (but crumbling)
Castle of Lions wherethey meet PRINCESS ALLURA, and her advisor, CORAN.
Coran explains the history of Voltron and how the one robot was split into
five lions.
- After consulting with the magical spirit of Allura's
father, KING ALFOR, they discover the hiding place for the five keys. To
their dismay, the key for the Black Lion is missing -- and Voltron cannot
be formed without that key.
- Pidge goes out alone and must be rescued by his
comrades, who pilot the four lions that can fly.
- The SPACE MICE, who have been Allura's friends
since childhood, are questioned about the location of the key. It turns
out they thought it was pretty and took it to their nest for a good luck
charm. The key is returned and Voltron lives again!
- Allura learns from her father's spirit that he
built a technologically advanced castle underground, and learns what is
needed to bring it to the surface. So a new Castle of Lions, capable of
defending itself, is born.
- Sven gets into a one-on-one duel with the witch
HAGGAR and is critically wounded. He must be taken to planet Ebb for specialized
medical attention. The Voltron Force is now down to four.
CHANGING OF THE GUARD
Allura struggles to be taken seriously as a
member of the Voltron Force as they continue to face Commader Yurak.
- Allura, intent on defending her people, tries
to fly the Blue Lion without perrmission. Unknown to her, Allura's domineering
NANNY has returned and is unhappy with the idea of her precious little
girl risking her life in a lion. She tries to go to the village and recruit
a "brave, intelligent man" for the job, but the village is attacked
and Allura must fly with the boys and help them form Voltron. She remains
a member of the team.
- Prince Bokar of Senak rescues Allura from certain
doom as a training session in Blue Lion goes bad. Everyone's charmed by
Bokar except Lance, who can't convince the others Bokar is a phony until
too late. Turns out Bokar is a Robeast in disguise!
- A young boy named Jai escapes from his enslaved
planet of Nemon to ask the Voltron Force for help. The figurehead ruler
of Nemon is Tabor, who refers to King Zarkon as his Uncle but looks incredibly
human [NOTE: must be related to LOTOR's mother, who was also human. I'll
get back to that later.]
- Hunk falls for a young girl named Twyla who has
escaped from Zarkon. He later finds out she's a spy and her brother volunteered
to become a Robeast, believing their cooperation would free their people.
The Robeast is defeated and Twyla realizes too late her actions have been
for naught.
- A white lion comes to Allura claiming to be the
spirit of her father reborn. Desperately wanting to believe the lion, Allura
follows it right into a trap! It turns out the lion is really a Robeast
in disguise, and Allura's loyal friends must rescue her.
- A deadly red rain falls on Arus, forcing people
to flee their homes. They're scooped up and captured by Zarkon, who holds
them as hostages to get the Voltron Force to surrender. A young girl named
Tammy escapes and is found by the Voltron Force, and it is only through
her posing as Pidge in his spacesuit that they can save the day. [NOTE:
interesting reference here -- at the end, Pidge says Tammy reminds him
of his kid sister on Planet Terra. First, this is the only reference to
any other sibling of Pidge. The other is that his home planet is named
Balto... so what's his sister doing on Terra (which, by the way, is another
name for Earth)?]
- Allura gets a message by carrier hawk that her
mother's sister, Queen Orla, is coming for a visit. Unknown to her, Haggar
has kidnapped Orla and taken on her identity. Only the mice can see through
Haggar's disguise, and go to great lengths to warn the Voltron Force. Haggar
is revealed and the real Orla is rescued. [NOTE: If Allura rules all of
Arus, where is Orla Queen of???]
ENTER THE PRINCE
Zarkon's son Lotor returns from his conquests
and takes over from the bumbling Commander Yurak... but can he do any better?
- PRINCE LOTOR arrives home from his conquests
just in time to replace the bumbling Yurak, who has tested Zarkon's patience
once too often. Lotor suggests Yurak be made into the Robeast he will use
to conquer Arus. The prince goes to Arus to challenge the Voltron Force,
gets a good look at Allura , and instantly wants her for his own. Keith
answers to Lotor's challenge for a duel, and is knocked unconscious. Luckily,
he comes to just in time to do Yurak in.
- Princess Allura still struggles to prove she
truly can lead the Voltron Force. This time, she takes Black Lion without
permission and her friends are mad... even Coran chews her out! Lotor sets
up a base on Arus and issues an ultimatum of "your princess or your
planet." Allura, losing her self-confidence, turns herself over to
Lotor. Her friends rescue her and remind her even though she can't lead
yet, she IS an important part of the team.
- A green-skinned female Medusan named Anga is
captured and turned into a Robeast. What they don't count on is her maternal
instincts, which kick into full gear when she sees Pidge in his green spacesuit
get hurt and is reminded of one of her own young. Pidge remembers the day
his adoptive parents came to take him away, and similarly becomes attached
to Anga like she's a substitute mom. Haggar comes and changes Anga back,
and the ordeal has strained Anga. Still, she puts her life on the line
to get Pidge back to his friends in time before a more powerful Robeast
conquers Arus.
- Planet Arus celebrates the legend of the Love
Bridge, formed by the strong bond between two lovers in ancient warring
kingdoms. Allura's cast as the lady in the revival, but who'll be her leading
man? Keith bows out of the race, and the remaining three guys draw cards
to see who's in luck...and it's HUNK! Lotor catches wind of the celebration
and decides to crash it in order to catch Allura off guard. As usual, though,
Lotor's attempt fails and the celebration continues.
- Mysterious spores fall to Arus that bloom into
beautiful but deceiving flowers, and even Princess Allura falls ill! Lance
must take the Blue Lion to Planet Lyra (since the water lion can counteract
Lyra's magnetic pull) to go get the antidote which is made from THEIR flowers.
He is taken prisoner by the beautiful Farla, acting under orders from King
Mag -- who is really a puppet for Lotor. Farla brings Lance to the castle,
and he gets loose and fights Lotor. Lotor knocks him over the side of the
castle and thinks Lance is finished. Meanwhile, Farla sees the Doom Soldiers
destroying the precious Roses of Lyra after Lotor has gotten enough of
the antidote for Allura and tries to stop them, but is injures. Lance intervenes,
and she rewards him by giving him seedlings to plant his own Roses of Lyra.
Lance makes it back just in time to fight off a Robeast, and even the weakened
Allura risks all to save the day. Allura is healed, and together she and
Lance take the remaining seedlings to replant on Lyra as Lance promised
Farla he would do.
- Zarkon has fallen very ill, and Haggar is very
preoccupied with trying to heal him. Lotor hopes his father will pass away,
and still wants to conquer Arus. Since Haggar is busy, he turns to a Doom
scientist for a potion that makes trees into monsters. These tree beasts
ravage Arus and Voltron must stop them. Not only does Lotor return to Doom
in defeat, but he finds out Haggar has healed his father, so he still won't
be King for a while!
- After Nanny and Coran catch Allura swimming in
a bikini with the boys, she's locked in her room for punishment. Unfortunately,
this makes her an easy target for Lotor, who breaks into her room and nearly
captures her! Allura is saved in the nick of time and Voltron is formed
to drive the Doom forces away.
- Haggar decides the next plan to invade Arus will
be on a very small scale... small Robeasts, that is. An army of robotic
mice infiltrate the Castle and cause all kinds of problems, which are blamed
on Allura's friends the Space Mice. The Space Mice have to work to convince
the Voltron Force that they are INNOCENT and help them defeat the robotic
rodents.
- Zarkon has recently invaded Planet Mora, where
he testing out two new weapons... the Pulsar (Energy) Cannon and the Centipede
Express. Voltron goes to Mora to check things out, and the rest of the
robot hides in the asteriod belt while Keith and Lance use the head of
the Green Lion to sneak down to the planet. Keith and Lance knock out a
couple of security guards, and steal their costumes as disguises. They
are caught planting bombs to blow up the Pulsar (Energy) Cannon by a slave
who feels the success of the weapon is the only way to free his people,
and was bitter that Voltron didn't save Mora before it was invaded. In
the end, he sees that the Voltron Force really DO have Mora's best interests
at heart, and turns the Pulsar (Energy) Cannon on the Centipede Express.
Zarkon is driven from Mora, and the Pulsar (Energy) Cannon becomes controlled
by the Galaxy Alliance.
- Planet Arus is terrorized by an invisible Robeast,
which overturns a carriage carrying Allura, Lance, Pidge, and Nanny. They
stop the Robeast from taking the Princess, then struggle to reunite with
their friends. After the Voltron Force gets together, it takes some quick
thinking to figure out how to make this elusive enemy visible.
- Pidge befriends three children who pretend to
be searching for treasure. Together, they find a REAL old castle full of
jewels... and terrifying skeleton guards! It turns out to be a trap by
Haggar to lure the Voltron Force to their defeat... but as usual it fails.
- Zarkon brings Princess Corral of Demos to Doom
with plans to have her marry Lotor and add Demos to the Empire. Lotor refuses
to marry Corral, obsessed with having Allura. Haggar helps Lotor create
a painless blade that induces sleep, and when Allura is cut by it, everyone
believes she is dead. Smart enough to realize it it probably an illusion
by Haggar, the Space Explorers stage a funeral to bring Lotor and Haggar
out into the open to revive Allura. Lotor hijacks the carriage carrying
Allura's coffin, and it is onyl through Pidge's bravery that Allura is
saved and reawakened. [NOTE: This is the ONLY episode where Voltron is
NEVER formed, and is one of my personal favorites because of it. Also,
Lotor has a VERY interesting dream in this episode, which seems to possibly
reveal facts about who his mother is. Learn more about it here.]
- A deadly space storm ravages Arus, and the people
must go into hiding. Pidge meets up with a young boy who he thinks is stealing
people's pets to eat them, but is really freeing it from a trap set by
hungry Doom soldiers. Pidge helps the boy tend to his sick mother, but
both are caught by Lotor's forces and chained to a giant bomb Lotor plans
to detonate underground. The Voltron Force is warned about the plot in
time, save Pidge and the boy, and send the bomb into space to form a new
sun.
- Arus will be host to a Space Olympics, and the
men of the Voltron Force are pitching in to build a new stadium... along
with some help from some young friends. One of the youngsters sees a work
machine sabotaged, but no one believes him until the machine goes berzerk
with a life of its own! Allura has to free the guys from being buried alive
before Voltron can be formed to save the day... and the Olympics!
- Planet Tyrus is the Doom Forces' favorite vacation
spot, and is playing host to a fabulous birthday party for Lotor. A ship
en route with gifts gets hit by asteroids, and when the Voltron Force goes
to check and see about getting jewels stolen from Arus, they are forced
to masquerade as guards and go along to Tyrus. There, they reveal their
true identities. Lance has to escape from a pit full of cannibals, and
only the quick thinking of a space mouse that stowed away saves Keith,
Hunk, and Pidge from dying at the stake.
- Zarkon and Lotor are caught up in a major dispute
over who should be ruler of Doom. The Castle of Lions launches At-EASe
(the Advanced Early Alarm System), but Lotor blows the satellites out of
the sky. Haggar's latest Robeast badly damages the Blue Lion (as Voltron's
leg) and injures the Princess' shoulder. The Voltron Force works hard to
refine their skills and strenghten their abilities, and must save a town
where a woman is giving birth to a child... who ends up being named Voltricia!
[NOTE: is really a 2-part arc, but is never billed as such and the two
episodes never aired close together. HATS
OFF TO THE CARTOON NETWORK! After over 10 YEARS, I saw the two above listed
episodes air back- to-back on September 23rd and 24th, 1997! I don't know
what finally made it happen... but THANK YOU!]
- Coran and Nanny discuss plans to for Princess
Allura to marry. The space explorers feel rather unwanted (no thanks to
Nanny) and storm to Castle Control. There they pick up on a distress call
from Planet Balto, Pidge's home world. Coran forbids them to take the lions
so far away (presumably Balto is in the NEAR universe, not the far) and
goes so far as to have the space explorers placed under house arrest. That
doesn't go over well, and the boys rebel and take off without permission.
Allura, knowing she will be needed, finally convinces Coran to let her
go. Balto turns out to be levelled, but apparently many people escaped
in ships. In the end, Balto explodes and Pidge, not knowing where his family
has gone, is made an honorary citizen of Arus.
- The Voltron Force come to a planet inhabited
by small cuddly creatures called Sandpeople, who are being enslaved by
Zarkon. One in particular befriends Allura, and she gives it her bracelet
and nicknames him Sandy. Sandy is later turned into a Robeast and forced
to battle Voltron. Sandy is defeated but not destroyed, he barely survives.
- When Princess Allura crash-lands after a training
exercise, she's rescued by a handsome stranger. He introduces himself as
Garrett, a man who's family was originally from Arus but escaped when Zarkon
invaded. He's invited back to the castle, and Coran is reminded that his
own missing son would be Garrett's age. Many years before, he sent his
wife Leda and their child away during a battle with Zarkon, but not before
giving the baby a pendant with the Royal Seal. He later sees a scar on
Garrett's arm that reminds him that his own child was injured in the same
place. And when Garrett reveals the pendant without thinking, Coran believes
he has found his long lost son. But that is not to be. Garrett turns out
to be a clone synthesized on Doom and sent to trick his way into the castle.
After making Coran too ill to work and taking his "father's"
place, Garrett orders the Pulsar (Energy) cannon to be stolen from Mora
to be used against Voltron, and the Force is pressed into having to disconnect
the robot and pretend to be blasted apart. Allura awakens in the care of
Runan, a mountain man who tells Allura how he helped the real Leda and
Garrett escape to another dimension. Armed with the truth, the Voltron
Force returns to stop Garrett... who ultimately is stopped by Coran, who
stun-guns him and later has his impostor son imprisoned.
- Princess Allura's judo lessons are interrupted
not only by an upset Nanny and Coran, but by a new Robeast which is drying
up all the water on Arus. The Voltron Force must figure out a way to find
water, otherwise the Blue Lion cannot be launched.
- Lotor has a "new and improved" version
of himself cloned in order to defeat the Voltron force. The Lotor clone
challenges Keith to a duel, but when the clone begins to get insolent,
it becomes apparent to Keith what's going on and he figures out a way to
vanquish the clone.
- Haggar takes yet another shot at infiltrating
Arus with tiny Robeasts... this time its in the form of seemigly harmless
tadpoles that become an ugly army of three-eyed frogs. Not only do the
frogs wreck a home of some children Pidge has befriended, they overwhelm
their father's sailing ship and Voltron must rescue him.
- Voltron comes to planet Bravura, which is inhabited
by nomadic tribes. With the help of some of the natives, they fight off
Zarkon's attempts to conquer the planet.
- The Voltron Force answers a call to arrive for
a celebration on the desert planet Yadl, unaware that Doom forces have
since captured the planet and are setting a trap. Voltron ends up coming
face to face with a Robeast that looks like... VOLTRON! It takes quick
thinking for Voltron to defeat itself!
- The Space Mice want in on defending the universe...
so Pidge helps build them the Mouse Plane. At first it all seems cute but
impractical, but the little Space Mice prove they can be quite a match
for Haggar's Blue Cat with firepower behind them!
- A rogue mercenary cuts a deal with Zarkon to
do in the Voltron Force. Using his cunning skills, he leads them into a
trap... but they're even more cunning and turn the tables on him.
- Haggar creates a robotic army of Red Berets,
who take Arus citizens hostage and trick the Black Lion into a trap that
threatens to leave Keith stuck in his lion forever. As usual, they find
a way to free Keith and the day is saved.
NEW ALLIES AND OLD FRIENDS
This is the time period when the Voltron Force
meet Princess Romelle and Prince Bandor of Pollux, and reunite with their
friend Sven.
- Zarkon is approached by a new ally... King Coba
of Planet POLLUX, Planet Arus' evil twin world. Apparently the very first
king of Arus had two sons, one peaceloving and one warlike. The warlike
son was banished to Pollux before the old king passed away, and his descendants
still carry the grudge. Coba has three children: Prince Avok, PRINCE BANDOR,
and PRINCESS ROMELLE. Avok volunteers to become a Robeast so that their
old enemy will finally be defeated. Lotor falls for Romelle, entranced
because she looks similar to Allura, and has her accompany him everywhere.
The Voltron Force catches wind of this and goes to Pollux to talk peace.
They get through to Princess Romelle and Prince Bandor is uncertain, but
it's too late... Avok is already a Robeast ready to wreak havoc. Voltron
fights Avok, who ends up very wounded and swims out to sea to escape. An
angry Lotor takes Romelle as his hostage and Coba disappears. Pollux is
won over to the side of good.
- Lotor takes Romelle back to Planet Doom. After
having his way with her, he tosses her in with other female slaves. Together
they scheme to steal a slave ship, and end up crashing on the ice planet
Neeve. The Voltron Force and Bandor go to rescue them, but Lotor is on
his way too. Lotor ends up getting away with Romelle but is later forced
to return her.
- Romelle's freedom doesn't last long as Lotor
has captured her yet again. This time, she's tied up in the control room
as Lotor and Haggar go in search of the Omega Comet -- a comet that has
the magnetic attraction of a black hole. Haggar puts magic rings around
the comet and directs it towards Arus. Voltron is sent into action to stop
the comet. Romelle is tricked into sending the Voltron Force a "secret
attack plan" that turns out to be a trap -- it weakens Voltron's defenses
and leaves the robot stuck on the Omega Comet! Prince Bandor comes with
his fleet to help, and ultimately is forced to used the full strength of
his fleet to blast the comet off course... risking the lives of the Voltron
Force! Apparently dead, the Voltron Force come to the edge of the Known
Universe, where the spirit of Eternal Happiness offers two choices: cross
over with her into a new place where they will be happy forever, or be
fully healed but never be able to come to the new place. They choose to
be healed and return to save Arus.
- Meanwhile, an enraged Lotor has taken Romelle
back to Doom. When she refuses to marry him, he has her cast into the Pit
of Skulls. There she is rescued by a man claiming to be wild and crazy,
who doesn't even know his own name. But in time (presumably from things
Allura told her) Romelle recognizes him as Sven! Sven denies his identity
as first, shamed by his defeat by Haggar and his subsequent inability to
defend Planet Ebb (where he was hospitalized) from Zarkon. When they saw
he was too injured to work, Sven was left without food or water. He saw
a vision of himself as he used to be and realized he could never be that
proud man again... so instead of fighting his way out to rejoin the Voltron
Force, he hid in the caves in denial. Romelle talks him into helping her
get to the surface, and later to help her steal a slave ship to escape.
Romelle's efforts help Sven find a purpose again, and he remains on Planet
Pollux with her.
- Sven disguises as a Robeast candidate to infiltrate
a shipment of Robeasts being taken to satellite Nuclon to form a Robeast
Army. Through Romelle, he passes on information to help Voltron find the
factory satellite and take it out before the Army can be created,
THE BIG SHOWDOWN
An alliance of planets in the Denubian Galaxy
join forces to free the slaves from Planet Doom. NOTE: THESE EVENTS OCCUR
IN A FOUR-EPISODE ARC, BUT I AM BREAKING THE WHOLE ARC DOWN SCENE BY SCENE.
- Galaxy Garrison is informed that Princess Allura
is calling a meeting of all planets in the Denubian Galaxy to discuss plans
to form a united from against Zarkon. We also learn from this conversation
that Zarkon is an outlaw of the Drule Empire (but, as we learn later, a
tolerated outlaw).
- After the meeting, Coran and the four space explorers
discuss Allura's safety. Coran volunteers to fly, but the offer is rejected.
They decide perhaps finding and training a subsitute to replace Allura
would be best. Coran and Keith continue the discussion privately, Coran
tries to figure up an excuse to get Allura away from Arus, but Keith realizes
she'd see through any attempt to protect her and that they must count on
vigilance to succeed.
- Zarkon requests support troops from planet Drule
but is denied. He and Haggar then watch their staged assasination of the
ambassador from Planet Olion, pulled off using synthesized clones. Their
hope is to dampen conference morale. Then a robeast is sent to attack the
Castle of Lions.
- The Voltron Force meets to organize their strategy.
Lance is particularly bitter about the apparent assasination of the Olion
ambassador. Taking Allura aside, Keith reminds Allura of Zarkon's direct
threat to Voltron and makes sure she really wants to put her life on the
line. When she reassures him she's sure of herself, Keith rewards Allura
by letting her pilot the Black Lion. Unfortunately Black Lion has been
sabotaged, and Allura loses control and must be rescued. She is knocked
out after a crash and dreams of Voltron being crushed if she were to lead.
- Allura awakens, afraid and disoriented. Her father
appears to her and tells her to flee the castle to escape Lotor and go
into hiding. [NOTE: based on what later happens, I personally believe Alfor's
appearance is really a Haggar trick to drive Allura to Lotor. Alfor would
NEVER encourage Allura to be a coward!]
- From his bedroom window, Keith sees Allura fleeing
the castle and follows her. Allura runs all night without rest, and finally
is cornered by Lotor. All seems lost until Keith intervenes. He successfully
protects the Princess, but Lotor gives him a nasty slice across his chest
and an unconscious Keith is laid up at the Castle of Lions.
- Allura, wanting to prove herself again, takes
off in Black Lion alone when the Robeast comes to Arus. She of course cannot
do it alone and Lance, Hunk, and Pidge prepare to fly and help her. Bandor
comes in and demands to pilot one of the Lions to help save the day, but
Keith awakens. Despite his pain, he gets into Blue Lion and they form Voltron.
The Robeast is vanquished and the plans get underway.
- Lotor reminisces about the Energy (Pulsar) Cannon
and how it was captured by Alliance forces. His thoughts are interrupted
by his arrest! It seems Daddy is tired of all his son's failures in battle
and must be punished like any other soldier that fails. Haggar tries to
defend Lotor, but has no success. Zarkon announces an upcoming court-martial
for his son and has Lotor dragged off to prison. Zarkon also reveals his
plans to destroy the Energy (Pulsar) Cannon, which he knows has been moved
to Arus.
- Meanwhile, on planet Drule, Marshal Kezor addresses
the council and informs them of Lotor's imprisonment. He suggests since
Zarkon has done even less than Lotor maybe HE should be disposed of!
- On Arus, plans to attack Doom are discussed,
including how the Energy (Pulsar) Cannon will be used to counteract the
charged particles protecting Planet Doom that would otherwise hurt Voltron.
To make sure the people of Arus are safe in case the planet comes under
attack, they are brought to the Castle which we learn can also become the
FLYING FORTRESS.
- Zarkon attacks the Energy (Pulsar) Cannon with
his ship, shooting only at the base in hopes of forcing it to fall off
the ledge into the canyon below. Lance tries to go alone to the Cannon
to fire it on Zarkon's ship, but he's injured and Keith must help him.
The only thing that keeps Zarkon from blowing the Cannon off the cliff
is the revelation and intervention of the Fortress.
- Nerok reports to Marshal Kezor that Zarkon has
failed to destroy the Cannon. Kezor decides that Zarkon truly is the incompetent
one and that Zarkon is using his son as a "fall guy." He decides
to help Lotor gain the throne.
- Drule Empire spies planted within the Doom ranks
free Lotor from prison. They capture Zarkon and Lotor declares himself
King. Zarkon is forced to pilot a giant Robeast that is the spitting image
of himself. If Zarkon wins the Drule Empire will forgive him -- if not,
then that is his fate! Lotor believes Voltron won't dare attack Doom.
- Voltron makes sure the Cannon is stable once
again then heads for Doom. Allura discovers to her surprise that the Space
Mice have snuck aboard again! The Cannon is fired from Arus at Doom and
the field around Doom is destroyed. Lotor is enraged!
- Lotor crowns himself King, and announces that
Zarkon will be sent to fight Voltron.
- We find out Romelle and Sven are leading a group
of saboteurs to destroy Haggar's lab, but Allura can't get through to her
cousin. Haggar is warned the saboteurs are on their way. Sven and Romelle
can't find the prisoners they were supposed to rescue from the lab! They
set off bombs and destroy the lab.
- Zarkon's Robeast and Voltron go head to head
as Haggar calls to the evil spirits for guidance. The Blazing Sword breaks
and Voltron takes an ax hit right in the chest! All seems lost until Alfor's
image appears to the Voltron Force, as it was programmed to do in times
of crisis. Allura is instructed to place her key upon the Great Seal of
Arus on Voltron's chest, and the Mice oblige. This creates a great surge
of energy that zaps Zarkon and re-fuses the Blazing Sword! Zarkon's Robeast
is destroyed, but not before he can get out in an escape ship and go into
hiding. [NOTE: Please don't ask what happened to the Lion Key... I don't
know.]
- Galaxy Garrison receives news the struggle is
going well. Commander Steele shares the good word with the council (which
is oddly minus Space Marshal Graham), but also reminds them Lotor is still
a threat.
- Haggar cries over the loss of the Zarkon Robeast
and vows to avenge the insult.
- Meanwhile, on Drule, Hazar speaks to the Council
and is accused of being a sentimentalist when he says that he feels Zarkon
controlling the Denubian Galaxy instead of them is all right as long as
someone associated with the Drule Empire controls it. Hazar is crushed
when he learns of Zarkon's defeat by Voltron.
- Lotor attacks Voltron with his own giant gun,
and traps Voltron by launching robot-guided neutron missiles that completely
surround the giant robot. However, something happens that Lotor doesn't
expect... Haggar begins destroying the missiles, bitter because Lotor let
his father be defeated! Lotor tries to stop her, but she escapes from him.
- As Voltron splits back into the five indivdual
lions, Lotor goes to the throne room and raises a new defense tower from
under Doom's surface. The Voltron Force continue their goal, which is to
get inside Castle Doom and free the slaves held there.
- Sven and Romelle climb up to Castle Doom, while
Coran and Bandor decide more assistance is needed and launch the Fortress.
- Voltron is re-formed again, and Allura remembers
all the people Lotor has hurt... Father... Mother... Sven... and Nanny.
[NOTE: Not quite sure how Nanny figures into all this...]
- Sven and Romelle come under attack but are rescued
by the Mouse Plane. Sven saves Romelle from being shot at and must bandage
her knee as the Flying Fortress arrives.
- Voltron defeats Castle Doom's defenses, and Lotor's
sunjects beg for surrender, but he refuses. He wants war and glory! The
robot soldiers rebel and Lotor "kills" them.
- Sven insists he has a score to settle with Lotor
for everything the Prince did to him and Romelle. Romelle begs Sven not
to go, but when she realizes she can't succeed, gives him her dagger. As
he bids her farwell and runs off, her brother Bandor and the Voltron Force
arrive. Romelle tells them Sven went to Castle Doom alone.
- Sven thinks he's killed Lotor on his throne but
it turns out to be a robotic fake. Lotor holds Sven at swordpoint as the
Voltron Force enter, then takes Sven as his hostage when the throne becomes
an elevator taking them to the top of the tower and Lotor's giant gun.
- Lotor now orders Voltron to be brought before
his gun to be melted down in order to spare Sven's life. Sven begs his
friends not to give in but they do. The Mouse Plane sneaks away unnoticed
and attacks Lotor from behind, distracting him. This allows Sven to plunge
the dagger into the gun controls and destroy it as Lotor comes lunging
at him shouting, "INFIDEL!" The blast causes Sven and Lotor to
fall together into the moat surrounding the now-exploding Castle Doom.
Sven is returned to Pollux to heal, and we learn Lotor also survived that
fall. Lotor vows his revenge.
- A party is held back on Planet Arus to celebrate,
and Coran gives a speech... but the Voltron Force doesn't show up! They're
taking a nap in the country, wondering if they'll get called back to join
the other Voltron Force now that the Denubian Galaxy is safe.
- On the Stellar Ship Explorer, Chip gets a letter
from his brother Pidge, letting him know that all the Denubian bad guys
have been defeated and maybe they might see each other again if their Voltron
Force isn't sent to another troubled spot. Voltron Vehicle Leader Jeff
points out they must always expect that, because they are a part of Voltron,
